The reason I began looking for a portable crib mattress is because the one that came with my daughter’s play yard was very thin. Great to use when she sat in there playing, but not offering enough comfort for sleep time.

The Dream On Me 3” Portable Crib Mattress Product Review

The Dream On Me 3” Portable Crib Mattress has been a welcome addition to my daughter’s pack n’ play experience.  Prior to using an additional portable crib mattress in her pack n play, travel while sleeping was a nightmare.  The mattress was thin and she could feel the support bar on her back.  It was a great bottom when playing in the playard, but it did not offer the comfort and support she needed to sleep soundly.

The Dream On Me 3” Portable Crib Mattress has allowed her to sleep well when staying at her grandparent’s house.  They babysit a couple of times a week and buying a second crib would have been a great additional expense and take up valuable real-estate in their home (sizing difference between a full size crib and a portable crib).  The pack n’ play was convenient because it could fold up when not in use and the Dream On Me 3” Portable Crib Mattress can easily be stored behind a piece of furniture.

There is a small 1-1.5” gap between the side of the mattress and my daughter’s pack n’ play.  Depending on the size of your portable crib or play yard, the same may be true for you.  I have not found this gap to be a problem with my daughter at all.  I do know some parents that have filled the gap with a rolled up towel or blanket for extra peace of mind.

Because the Dream On Me 3” Portable Crib Mattress is smaller than a standard crib mattress, a regular fitted crib sheet will not fit this portable crib.  In order to ensure your child’s safety, a smaller crib sheet should be purchased.  I recommend the American Baby Company 100% Cotton Value Jersey Knit Porta-Crib Sheet, it is soft and feels gentle against exposed skin.  You may also want to consider buying an American Baby Company Waterproof Fitted Quilted Porta-Crib Mattress Pad Cover for an extra layer of protection against spills.  It is machine washable, making clean-up easy.

My grandaughter can finally rest comfortably in her Graco pacnplay which had a very hard mattress. So far this mattress is exactly what we needed when I babysit her at my house. I placed it directly on top of the pacnplay mattress, covered it with a pacnplay size fitted sheet and voila! a nice comfy napping place for her which proved to be a lot cheaper than buying a new crib and crib mattress.

This product has made a world of difference in my baby’s napping. He naps in a pack ‘n play at daycare and he used to cry for 30 minutes and then maybe sleep for 30 minutes. Now he goes right to sleep with no crying and sleeps about 2 hours each nap. It is amazing. There is a small gap between the side of the pack n play and the mattress but it is no where near big enough for his head to get stuck or to present any risk. I just know where to find the pacifier. I would definately recommend this product.

Portable cribs are smaller than traditional sized cribs.  Pack n plays can easily be folded up and stored away.  While the portable cribs do need to have special sheets made just for that size mattress (do not use the standard sized crib sheets due to safety issues), it is still a huge cost saver compared to buying a much more expensive second crib.

Even though you are choosing to use a portable crib, keep infants sleeping on their backs.  Consider using a halo sleepsack instead of a blanket to keep baby’s face free for easy breathing.
